In April, following the 20 year anniversary of Kurt Cobain’s death, police detectives in Seattle, Washington revealed the details of a note that was found in the late front man’s wallet at his death scene.

The note reads: “Do you Kurt Cobain take Courtney Michelle Love to be your lawful shredded wife…  Even when she’s a bitch with zits and siphoning all yr money for doping and whoring…”

Although Courtney Love has indeed admitted she was the one who wrote the nasty note to her late husband, there are still many theories surrounding it.

According to media outlets, when the note was first exposed, this was a clear sign that Cobain and Love were at odds when he tragically killed himself.

Another idea is that the note is merely a sign of the humor that the two of them shared in life.  Author of the highly regarded Cobain biography Higher than Heaven, Charles R. Cross, claims that Love admitted it to him in an email that she was the author of the note.

Cross believes that the note predates the 1991 wedding Cobain and Love would have.

“Early in their relationship, they wrote notes like that to each other constantly,” Cross told the Hollywood Reporter. “The handwriting is absolutely Courtney’s.”

Courtney Love contacted the Seattle Times newspaper by email and told them the note was written by her on New Year’s Eve while the band was doing a performance in San Francisco.
